Vale of Glamorgan,South Wales - Man showed 'no remorse' after sexually abusing vulnerable young girl, court told

Clive Doster was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court

Clive Doster, 69, has been jailed for six years after being found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault on a chid

A man who showed “no remorse” after sexually abusing a vulnerable young girl has been sent to prison for six years.
Clive Doster, 69, from Downs View in Cowbridge , denied 12 counts of indecent assault on a child, but was found guilty by a jury in July following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court .
The court heard his offending started at the end of the 1980s and lasted for several years.
Recorder Catherine Brown described Doster’s victim as “a vulnerable young girl”.
Sentencing Doster, she said: “You turned the conversation sexual by referring to her private parts.
“You gave her attention and effectively dared her to engage in sexual activity with you.”
The court heard the abuse lasted into the girl’s teenage years.
Prosecutor Marian Lewis said Doster was “still in denial” and argued there was a risk of further offending.

"You have shown no remorse or insight into your offending"

David Purnell, defending, told the court Doster was a carer for his mother and suffered from a respiratory condition himself.
He added: “He is not in the best of health. Time in custody will be considerably harder for him than for someone younger in years.”
Recorder Brown said aggravating factors included the fact that the victim was particularly vulnerable and that the defendant had instructed her not to tell anyone about the abuse.
She added: “These are very serious offences against a vulnerable young girl over an extended period.
“It is quite clear that your offending has had a lasting effect upon her, but you have shown no remorse or insight into your offending.”
Doster was sentenced to six years in prison and will be automatically barred from working with young people or vulnerable adults.
The prosecution made an application for a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, but the judge said it was not necessary.
Speaking of the victim, Recorder Brown said: “I hope that the conclusion of this trial will give her some peace and help her to put her life back together.”
