Ben Barrett was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court for possessing indecent images of children
A LLANDEILO man caught with hundreds of indecent images of children as young as six on his computer and phone has avoided jail.
Swansea Crown Court heard that police raided Ben Barrett's flat in October last year after they detected he had uploaded a so-called Category A photograph — the most extreme kind — to Facebook.

On his laptop computer they found 346 indecent pictures and videos and 55 prohibited images — hand-drawn or computer-generated images — and another 126 on his mobile phone.
Helen Randall, for the prosecution, said a total of 14 of the images and videos were "Category A" — the most extreme kinds — and that the internet history on his computer showed he had actively searched for sexual pictures of underage children.
The barrister said that in his police interview the 27-year-old "alternated between denial and acceptance" of what he had done.
Barrett, of Maes y Fachnad, Llandeilo, had previously pleaded guilty to possessing indecent and prohibited images when he appeared in the dock for sentencing.
Nicola Powell, for Barrett, said a probation report on her client showed "expressions of guilt, remorse and disgust", and added that he was ashamed of what he had done and "clearly needs help".
Recorder Christopher Clee QC told Barrett he had come "very close" to going to prison, but said the probation service felt they could work with him.
The judge sentenced Barrett to a 36 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement and a community sex offenders programme.
The defendant was also made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, and will be on the sex offenders register for five years.
