A court heard Osian Pierce-Jones, 54, had denied he had been drinking when he spoke to officers after the incident in Abergele

A former police officer who admitted being almost four times the drink-drive limit has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Magistrates in Llandudno heard that Osian Pierce-Jones’s partner called the police after he collided with a wall at her home in Heol Elwy, Abergele , on the afternoon of July 20.
He denied having been drinking but failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently found to have 131 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit is 35.
Alex Fitzgerald, defending, said that Pierce-Jones, 54, had been to a birthday party and had walked there and back, but after getting home had decided to drive to the Tesco store because he was hungry. It was on his return that he collided with the wall.
As a result of the incident, he said, the 10-year relationship had come to an end and Pierce-Jones was now living with his mother in Abergele Road, Old Colwyn.
Mr Fitzgerald told the court that the defendant had had to retire from the police because of ill-health and prior to the incident had been drinking heavily.
Since then he had reduced his intake dramatically and had sought help from Alcoholics Anonymous.
Pierce-Jones, who pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and must also attend a 10-day programme covering alcohol issues and thinking skills.
He was also banned from driving for 36 months and chairman Duncan Stewart said that because of the aggravating features – the time of day of the incident, the damage caused and the high level – he would not be offered the drink-driver’s awareness course.
