Llandudno's popular “Monkey Man” and his wife are recovering after allegedly being assaulted in their own home - for the sake of £10.
Police are investigating the incident which occurred on the morning of July 5 in the seaside town.
Sam Peters and Amanda Newman are well-known in Llandudno for entertaining people on the streets with their singing and dancing act .
He has won fans across the world for his Monkey Man act which involves dressing up in various guises with his toy monkey beside him.
The 63-year-old who has suffered from a variety of health problems over the years, including depression which performing helps him overcome.
He said the assault has left him feeling low because tissue damage he suffered to his right shoulder means he cannot perform.
Sam said: “A man came into our house on the Tuesday morning.
“Amanda and I were still in our pyjamas.
“He wanted £10, and he attacked us for it.
“The incident has left me once again fighting depression, the best way of dealing with it would be to go out and perform.
“To make people smile, that’s what I always do when I’m feeling low but at the moment I just can’t so I’m feeling even more miserable and I’m in a lot of pain with my shoulder.”
"Worrying"
Sam’s consultant has warned him he may lose some movement in his shoulder because of the injury.
“It’s very worrying but I’m trying to fix it the best I can,” he said.
“I’m telling this story because I want the public to know why Amanda and I haven’t been out performing.”
Last August scores of well-wishers attended the couple’s colourful wedding.
They were married in a packed out Holy Trinity Church in the town.
Amanda added: “I can see Sam is hurting and I just hope the public will support us to get through this difficult time.”
A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: “We received a report of an assault and it is currently being investigated. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident
