A DRIVER who had taken cannabis led police on a six mile high speed chase.
Brendan Evans, aged 26, ignored police blue lights and indications to stop and sped away. He reached speeds of 70 mph in a 30 mph area.
And he drove at high speed along country lanes and through villages during the chase, which had to be abandoned at one stage when the police car suffered a puncture.
Mold Crown Court heard how the police helicopter took over and observed his drivingr. Colleagues on the ground used a stringer device and the car, which contained four people, came to a halt.
The chase from Prestatyn on the night of February 8 extended six miles and he travelled through a number of villages before he came to a stop, said prosecuting barrister Ryan Rothwell. He was first seen driving at speed at a car park service road but refused to stop.
When police spoke to him, he had white powder around his mouth and said he drove off because he had no driving licence.
He also said he had ignored pleas from three passengers to give up.
Evans of Swadlincote in Derbyshire admitted dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs, no insurance and no licence.
Judge Niclas Parry jailed him for ten months and banned him from driving for two years and four months. The judge told him that he had previous convictions for 45 offences and had left a thoroughly criminal life-style.
On February 8, under the influence of drugs, he was driving around North Wales late at night.
He was seen by the occupants of a fully marked police car but his immediate response was to escape.
“You embarked upon a prolonged course of bad driving over many miles,” he said.
The police helicopter was called out, such was the concern for the danger he was causing.
He said: “The potential for a collision was obvious despite the late hour. You put at risk the lives of the three passengers you were carrying.”
