Callum Williams, 18, was locked up for a year after admitting to causing grievous bodily harm, intent to resist arrest, assault and damaging property

A policewoman suffered a broken leg as she and colleagues struggled with a powerfully-built “out of control” teenager, a court heard.
Callum Williams, 18, of a farm at Adwy, near Coedpoeth, Wrexham, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to PC Michelle Shirley with intent to resist arrest, assault and damaging property. He was locked up for a year.
Mold crown court heard that in June police were called to a domestic dispute at Williams’ home and the teenager had damaged a car wing mirror. Four officers arrived.
Prosecuting counsel John Philpotts said: “This defendant was extremely agitated. He was abusive and to some extent threatening.”
Incapacitant spray was used on Williams but he grabbed a PC’s throat and there was a violent struggle. He also spat in an officer’s face.
WPC Shirley was attempting to restrain Williams when the injury occurred.
Mr Philpotts said the officer had surgery and it would be nine months before she recovered fully.
Judge Niclas Parry said Williams had been “totally out of control” and the grievous bodily harm was caused “recklessly.”
The judge added: ”This is a serious example of the day-to-day dangers faced by police officers and they look to the court for protection.”
