A MAN who was caught driving under the influence of drugs was more than 15 times over the legal limit.
Dyfan Ioan Buffey, 25, of Culfan, Rhosllanerchrugog, pleaded guilty at Wrexham Magistrates Court to driving with excess cocaine and benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in his system.
Prosecutor Helen Tench said the defendantwas stopped by police on Maes Hyfryd in Rhosrobin shortly before 2am on June 4.
Officers administered a roadside drink and drugs test and, when Buffey tested positive for cocaine, he was arrested and taken into custody.
Whilst in police custody, he was tested again and found to have 152 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood, compared to the legal limit of 10 micrograms.
He also tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, which was present at 1403 micrograms per litre of blood where the legal limit is 50 micrograms.
Ms Tench told the court that, given the legal limits for each substance, the amount of both drugs in Buffey’s system was “extremely high”.
Buffey, representing himself, admitted everything he had done and said he understood the implications and the guaranteed driving ban he would receive.
The court heard that Buffey was also in breach of a suspended sentence issued by Mold Crown Court last year, with District Judge Gwyn Jones adding that because of this breach, the matter should be referred to the Crown Court.
Buffey will appear at Mold Crown Court on August 11 for sentencing
