Armed police were deployed after a report of a disturbance in Blaina High Street

Police were called to the scene in Blaina on Tuesday

Armed police were deployed to a Valleys town following a report of a disturbance involving a man with a machete or a knife in a street.

Police attended the scene in Blaina High Street, Blaenau Gwent , following reports of a disturbance at 4.42pm on Tuesday.

But when police attended the scene they received reports of a man in possession of a knife or a machete.

No injuries

A spokesman for Gwent Police said armed response officers attended due to the potential risk and a number of what are believed to be Samurai swords have been recovered from a property in Blaina.

He confirmed a 25-year-old local man had been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and affray.
