A MAN who stabbed a friend after he tried to intervene in an argument he was having with his girlfriend following a night out in Swansea has been jailed.
Mark Harris, of Ty'r Maes in Blaenymaes, had been out with friends in January, to celebrate the birthday of a female member of the group.
Swansea Crown Court was told the 32-year-old had returned to a property at Heol Frank in Penlan following the night out, but not before stopping to buy some more alcohol on the way.
It also heard that party-goers had been taking drugs, and during the evening after they returned, Harris and his girlfriend began to argue, prompting another man to intervene in a bid to defuse the situation.
But Harris pulled a knife on the other man, and stabbed him in his torso, leaving him with a serious stab wound.
Stephen Rees, mitigating for Harris, told the court: "The injury was serious, and was life-threatening if it had not been treated. But his position is aggravated by his previous convictions, although he has not been in trouble for three years."
Harris had been found guilty following a trial by jury.

Sentencing, Judge Michael Burr said: "It is clear on the night there was a great consumption of drugs.
"You deny you were engaged in that to any great extent. There was a serious use of a weapon, and in your case not for the first time.
"Nevertheless, there has been a significant injury by the use of the knife. You were convicted of a similar charge, and the injury was quite dreadful and could have had much more serious consequences.
"That did not happen. After a relatively short amount of time in hospital, your victim was able to recover some sort of activity.
"But the offence so serious, that only custody is justified."
Harris was jailed for three-and-a-half years.
