VOLUNTEERS have been left devastated after heartless thieves struck at a community hub.
Two benches owned by the Libby Fletcher Community Cafe in Connah’s Quay were stolen overnight on Monday – despite being bolted to the ground.
The benches, located outside on Cable Street, were purchased just 18 months ago and were used on a daily basis by residents and groups who use the building.
Connah’s Quay councillor Gill Faulkner, also the chairman of the cafe, described the thieves as the “lowest of the low”.
“Everyone is so upset about it – the cafe is run by volunteers,” she said.
“We only bought them 18 months ago and they were bolted to the ground.
“Someone had to have gone there with the right equipment to take them.
“It’s a community cafe used by the community.
“People that visit there sit outside on the benches to have their dinner when the weather is nice.
“We don’t have the money to buy more benches – it has really upset the volunteers.
“With it being a community cafe, I think this is the lowest of the low.”
Cllr Faulkner said she is going to raise the issue about improving the CCTV in the area.
The theft happened between 4.30pm on Monday and 9am on Tuesday.
Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting the crime reference number U105979.
