rned he faces a jail term after being found guilty of rape.
Vernon Henshaw , 67, of West Parade, Rhyl, had denied the attack on a woman in the kitchen of her flat in Colwyn Bay in April last year.
He claimed she had agreed to have sex with him, which Henshaw said took place in the woman’s bedroom.
But, after a three-day trial, a jury of seven men and five women unanimously found Henshaw guilty of the charge.
The judge, Mr Recorder Paul Lewis QC, adjourned sentence for the preparation of reports.
Granting Henshaw bail, the judge warned him to expect an immediate custodial sentence when he returns to court.
Henshaw, who is deaf and blind in one eye, was also told to sign the sex offenders register.
The jury heard Henshaw was in the habit of selling tobacco and cigarettes cheaply and that the woman had expressed an interest in buying items from him.
On April 27 last year, she returned to her home to find Henshaw on the doorstep.
In a video interview with detectives played to the jury, she said she told him he would not be allowed into the flat.
She said he had made unwanted advances towards her on a previous occasion.
But one of her pet cats had escaped and, as she opened the flat door and left the front door open, Henshaw had follwed her into the kitchen.
The first she knew of it was when he put both his hands around her neck and squeezed so tightly that she fainted.
When she came round, she found herself face down on the floor of her kitchen with Henshaw carrying out a serious sexual assault.
After being told to stop, Henshaw left the flat, commenting that he would see the woman again the following day.
Police officers arrested Henshaw later that day.
Henshaw told officers he’d been invited into the flat and the woman had made him a cup of tea.
He said he had known the woman for about four weeks and had suggested they live together as companions and enjoy casual sex.
Accompanied by members of his family, Henshaw made no comment after the hearing
