Swansea,South Wales - Woman could lose council flat after allowing boyfriend to grown cannabis in her Penllergaer home

Darren Anthony Brown and Lisa Lewis appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court
A SWANSEA woman is at risk of losing her council home after allowing her then-boyfriend to grow cannabis in the property, a court has heard.
Darren Anthony Brown was cultivating the drug in the bathroom and in a cupboard at his partner's home in Penllergaer.
Police searched the house after seeing Brown driving off from a flat in Heol Dewi Sant in his Ford Ka and driving up an unmade track to a dead end.
When pulled over the 35-year-old appeared "nervous" and was fidgeting with the waistband of his trousers — officers then saw a small plastic bag containing amphetamine lying at his feet.
Swansea Magistrates Court heard that checks showed Brown — who is also known as Darren Richards — only held an expired provisional driving licence.
A subsequent search of the property he had driven-off from found cannabis plants and growing equipment, along with a quantity of herbal cannabis in a bedroom.
Brown, of Morgan Close, Penllergaer, pleaded guilty to possessing a quantity of amphetamine, driving without a licence or insurance, possessing cannabis and producing cannabis.
The court heard that in his police interview he said he had bought the amphetamine to help him lose weight — though hadn't actually taken any — and had started growing cannabis in order to save money
.Lisa Lewis, aged 30, of Heol Dewi Sant, Penllergaer, pleaded guilty to permitting cannabis to be produced in a premises she occupied.
The court heard Brown has convictions for 16 previous offences — seven of which are drug related — while Lewis has no convictions.
Andrew Evans, for Lewis, said that since Lewis had "foolishly" allowed her then-boyfriend to grow drugs in her flat, Swansea Council had written to her and she was now at risk of losing her tenancy.
Mr Evans, who also represented Brown, said his client had been "quite a heavy" heroin user but was not a methadone prescription, and had decided to start growing his own cannabis to save money because he was spending between £5 and £10 a day on the drug.
For the cannabis production charge Brown was given a 26 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months, and was fined £50 for each of the possession charges. For driving without insurance he was disqualified for 12 months. He must also complete a drug rehabilitation and course.
Lewis was given a 12 month community order with a rehabilitation requirement.
