A nightclub worker has admitted stealing nearly £70,000 while working for ’90s club Retro in Cardiff .
Jordan Rowlands, from Claerwen in Gelligaer, Hengoed, appeared before Judge Michael Fitton QC at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday and admitted one count of theft from his employer.
Around 20 people crowded into the public gallery for the hearing.
The 23-year-old, who stood in the dock wearing a white shirt and black tie, pleaded guilty to stealing a total of £69,137.73 while working for Retro between March 2014 and October 2015.
He had initially pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ court to theft from his employer and accepted stealing £20,000 but did not accept the full amount alleged by the Crown Prosecution Service.
The defendant has since accepted the full amount and a Newton hearing, to determine the extent of the theft, was abandoned.
Prison 'likely'
Judge Fitton told the defendant: “You have done the sensible thing in pleading guilty.”
But he warned him: “You are facing a likely prison sentence.”
His defence barrister asked for the case to be adjourned for a pre-sentence report.
Judge Fitton agreed to adjourn the case for three weeks.
He told Rowlands: “That gives you time to talk to your lawyers and obtain the relevant references.”
Rowlands was granted conditional bail until he is sentenced on August 9.
