A BINGE drinker could not remember two late night incidents when he damaged vehicles.
But when told the following morning what he had done, Harry George Dodd, 22, contacted the police.
Dodd, of Deerwood Crescent in Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port, returned to Buckley, where he used to live, with his girlfriend to celebrate her cousin’s birthday.
But at the end of the night two women in the group fell out and it was alleged his girlfriend said if he was not taking her side, then their relatonship was over.
In drink he punched two vehicles causing damage valued at more than £2,800.
He admitted two damage charges on May 22 – one at Mill Lane when a Renault Kango van was damaged to the tune of £2,200 and one at Liverpool Road, where a Ford Zetec was damaged to the value of £684.
Appearing at Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold yesterday, Dodd was ordered to pay the compensation in full, was placed on a 12-month community order with rehabilitation, and he was told to remain indoors in a 10-week curfew between 7pm and 7am.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson said Dodd’s girlfriend’s mobile phone was found at the scene of one of the damage offences.
Interviewed, he said he acted in anger.
He did not drink often but when he did he found himself in trouble.
Mark Evans, defending, said his client was “a drunken idiot” who had been emotionally immature in drink.
He had too much to drink and when upset took it out on the vehicles but he had done what he could to put it right.
When told what he had done, he volunteered himself to the police and made full admissions.
If he had been able to raise the compensation he could have received a caution. He had already been punished because he had lost his job as a result.
Probation officer Andrew Connah said Dodd did not depend on alcohol but did binge drink at weekends and also used cannabis on a daily basis.
