A brand new pay and display machine on Anglesey was covered in sealant in protest at new parking charges.
Over the weekend a vandal slathered silicone bathroom sealant all over the machine at Porth Swtan by Church Bay to stop it being used.
The machine on the west coast of the island was only installed last week.
Anglesey Council have vowed to clean the machine and have it back in use as soon as possible.
They say the cash from the machines is used to maintain the car parks, which otherwise may have to be sold.
A nearby villager told the Daily Post: “As much as I hate vandalism of any kind I can only applaud the individual for displaying their feelings about the money-grabbing scheme coming to free car parks on Anglesey.”
There are concerns locally the new charges could impact on the businesses in Church Bay.
An Anglesey Council spokesman said: “In times when the authority faces substantial pressures on expenditure, we have had to review the provision of public car parks and where appropriate introduce charges in some new locations, including Porth Swtan.
“Income from charges contributes to the maintenance and management of these parking facilities, where otherwise consideration would have to be given to the disposal of these sites and the resulting loss of public parking provision in communities across the island."
