Barry,South Wales - Tributes paid to former soldier with 'a heart of gold' who died after street disturbance

Thomas Sloman, 27, had recently left the Army and his family said he was 'looking forward to the next chapter of his life'

A man who died following a street disturbance has been named as former soldier Thomas Julian Sloman.
The 27-year-old's family has paid tribute describing him as a devoted father, boyfriend, brother, grandson and nephew.
They said: "He was deeply loved by all his family and friends. It had been his honour to serve his country as a member of the Welsh Guards (Prince of Wales Company) - he served in Afghanistan.
"He had recently left the Army and was looking forward to the next chapter of his life. He was a good guy with a heart of gold, and will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.'"
Thomas is believed to have collapsed following a disturbance in Broad Street near the Sir Samuel Romilly pub at around 4am on Saturday and officers are trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.

Despite the efforts of police and paramedics at the scene, Thomas died shortly afterwards at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
They are urging anybody who was there at the time or in the moments before he collapsed to come forward if they have not already done so.
His sudden death is currently being treated as unexplained. A post mortem has been carried out and officers are now awaiting further tests to determine the cause of death.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Mark O'Shea said: "Thomas Sloman’s family are being given support by specially trained family liaison officers during this very difficult time.
"We are trying to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to when Thomas collapsed.
"Anyone who was there at the time or who has information, who has not yet spoken to us, should make contact immediately."
A 42-year-old man who was arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident has been released on police bail pending further enquirers.
No further action is being taken against a 29 year-old man arrested following the incident.
