Lowri and Aled Williams decided to forgo a honeymoon so they could invest in his business, but the tools they bought have gone missing
A hardworking couple have been left in despair after tools they bought by saving wedding money and forgoing a honeymoon were taken from their van.
When childhood sweethearts Lowri and Aled Williams got married earlier this summer, they decided to go without a romantic getaway so they could invest the money in Aled’s business.
“We don’t have a lot of money,” said Lowri, 28, from Ynysybwl in Rhondda Cynon Taf . “It was a difficult decision, but it seemed like the right thing to do.”
'We don't have a lot of money'
The pair, who met at school, lost their son Noa to sudden infant death syndrome last September when he was two.
As they struggled to come to terms with his death, Aled changed career and decided to start working as a self-employed labourer.
The couple got married at St Michael’s Church in Tongwynlais on June 25.
They had talked about going away for a honeymoon, but instead decided to save the money and buy tools to further the business.
Just weeks later, Aled, also 28, returned to his van to discover the tools had gone.
He was parked on Llancaiach View in Nelson when the incident occurred some time between 1pm and 4pm on Tuesday, August 2.
“My husband was just finishing packing up after work when he found the tools were missing,” said Lowri.
“It looked like the lock on the back doors of the van had been drilled.”
She estimates the tools, including a brand new drill, were worth about £500 and were not covered by insurance.
'We just want the tools back'
“We just want them back so my husband can get on with his job,” she said.
Their friend Lucy Griffiths has set up a page on Go Fund Me and is hoping to raise funds to help the couple.
She said: “Everyone knows what a tough year Aled and Lowri have had, but despite this, they have both found a way to carry on without their Noa Bear.
“After getting married, they used their wedding money to buy tools for Aled to work – not a honeymoon as most would.”
She added: “This week all those tools have been stolen from Aled’s van. Let’s help replace them.
“Aled declined help, but I think they deserve it. They really are an amazingly strong couple who deserve a break.”
