A MAN took a hammer into his doctor's surgery saying he was "going to get the boys" who got his son arrested, a court has heard.
Concerned staff at the Dyfed Road health centre in Neath called police and Michael David Evans was arrested — but was too drunk to be interviewed until the following day.
In his rucksack the officers found a hammer.
Evans, of School Road, Melyn, Neath, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon on August 2 when he appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court.
The court heard he had told staff at the medical centre he had gone there seeking help before he hurt somebody, and that he was "going to get the boys" who he believed were responsible for getting his son arrested.
The 45-year-old also pleaded guilty to two counts of shoplifting from the Mile End Service Station in Melyn on July 1 and July 16 when he had taken a four-pack of Stella lager and then four packets of sandwiches when he appeared before justices.
The court heard Evans has 17 previous convictions for 31 offences, six of them for theft matters.
The court heard that in his police interview he said he had the hammer for his own protection, having been attacked the week before.
Sentencing was adjourned to September 8 for the preparation of reports, and Evans was bailed to that date on condition that he does not go to the Mile End garage.
