A MOTORIST who sped away from police and turned into the path of an oncoming bus, forcing him to skid to a stop, was told by a judge: “You have no licence to drive like an idiot.”
Jailing Nigel Jones for a year and imposing a 12 months ban with an extended re-test, Judge David Hale said to Nigel Jones: “You are in your forties, not some hot-rod young man, and you think despite the fact you are disqualified you can ignore that.”
He added: ”Anyone could have been walking along that road or crossing the road. Some kid could be on a bike.
“You have spent most of your adult life committing offences.”
Jones, 46, of Jubilee Court, Buckley, pleaded guilty at Mold Crown Court yesterday to dangerous driving, driving when banned and stealing sun cream from a Mold store.
Prosecutor David Mainstone said a police constable saw Jones driving a VW Golf convertible on the A5104 towards Broughton in May.
Quizzed later, Jones claimed it must have been his father behind the wheel.
Then on June 24, he stole 20 bottles of sun cream.
Later the same day a police sergeant in an unmarked car pulled alongside the VW Golf being driven by Jones at Buckley, but instead of switching off the engine, Jones reversed and made off at speed, turning into Jubilee Road where there was a bus.
Mr Mainstone said smoke came from the car’s wheels as he skidded to a halt. He then drove home where police seized the car.
Barrister Oliver King, defending, said Jones used the car to run errands to help his father
He added no damage or injury had been caused.
