Pontypridd,South Wales - Three men escaped in a car after taking money from the tills in post office robbery

Police are investigating a robbery at the post office in Rhydyfelin near Pontypridd

Police are investigating a robbery at a post office which saw thieves make off with an unspecified amount of cash.
The post office in Rhydyfelin near Pontypridd was targeted at 10am on Tuesday.
Three men entered the post office and made off with an unknown quantity of cash from the tills.
They fled the scene in a car but police were unable to give a description of the vehicle.
South Wales Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
Local councillor Maureen Webb said she was shocked that an incident like this could happen in such a close-knit community.
She said: “This is an appalling thing to happen in such a small village.
“I had a very brief chat with the postmaster this afternoon and as far as I know all the staff are okay, or as well as they can be expected to be in the situation.
“Things like this don’t happen to our community – we are very tight-knit and everyone I know is shocked.
“These were local people so I know we will pull round and support them through this difficult time.”
Local businesses were left shocked by the crime.
The landlady of the nearby Griffin Inn said when she arrived for work just after 10am on Tuesday she found the building surrounded by police.
She said: “We don’t know a lot about what happened but when the staff and I got here there was lots of police.”
The manager of the local Spar, who also did not want to be named, said people were shocked by what happened.
