Saltney Ferry Post Office owner Tejas Modi ended up being taken to hospital by friend after being attacked by robbers wielding machete
The victim of a machete attack had to be driven to hospital by a friend after an ambulance failed to show for more than THREE hours.
Tejas Modi was bleeding from a wound to his head and was in shock after being attacked by robbers who targeted his Post Office and general store in Saltney Ferry.
An ambulance was called to the Saltney Ferry post office at around 5.10pm on Tuesday, but despite repeated attempts to get a vehicle to the scene none arrived.
A friend and fellow business owner said he took Mr Modi to Countess of Chester Hospital at 8.30pm.
The man, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Daily Post: “It happened around 5pm and no ambulance turned up, so I took him to the Countess of Chester Hospital at 8.30pm.
“He had a head injury because they beat him up. It is terrible that no ambulance came for him and the police were not happy.
“Mr Modi was shocked. He may have been kept in overnight because his car is still here.”
Two men with motorcycle helmets escaped with anything up to £7,000 in the raid before escaping on a motorcycle.
Richard Lee, Director of Operations for the Welsh Ambulance Service , said: “We would like to sincerely apologise to this gentleman for the length of time he waited as we appreciate what a distressing situation this would have been.
“Unfortunately, at the time of this call, all of our available resources were committed to other patients in the community or at Emergency Departments, including Wrexham Maelor Hospital where significant handover delays on Tuesday meant we couldn’t respond to some calls, including this one, as quickly as we would have liked.
“This is not the level of service we wish to provide and we will be reviewing this call to see if there is anything that can be learned moving forward.
“We hope to make contact with this patient in order to go through what happened with him directly, but in the meantime we would like to send him our best wishes for his continued recovery.”
Police have issued an appeal in a bid to hunt down the thugs.
