Andrew Saunders murdered Zoe Morgan and Lee Simmons in a horrific attack in which they were repeatedly stabbed
A killer sent his father a chilling text message moments after he murdered a young couple in a horrific knife attack on one of Cardiff's busiest streets.
Andrew Saunders was seen taking an eight-inch knife from his backpack and "repeatedly" stabbing Lee Simmons "in a frenzy".
As Zoe Morgan tried to pull him off her partner, he told her "I'm coming for you next, bitch."
He then chased Ms Morgan to Boots on Cardiff's Queen Street, where he pulled a second knife from his backpack - said to be 10 inches long - and inflicted multiple injuries on her.
The defendant then called his mother and they spoke for 10 minutes. He then sent a message to his father saying: “Thanks for being a pathetic, useless father. “Just killed two people. Cheers.”
Saunders posted “f***” on his Facebook timeline.
A crime scene investigator recovered a knife from the doorway of Matalan on Queen Street, along with plastic gloves. Saunders' address at Castleton, outside Cardiff, was searched and a blood-stained knife was recovered from the kitchen table.
He was arrested and told police: “Sometimes, you just snap. I’m really sorry for what I did. I just lost control. Your head is a weird thing.
“Have you ever been involved with someone? Are they both dead? I just want to know for peace of mind.”
Tributes were left at the scene on Queen Street as heartbroken family members, friends and colleagues paid tribute to the young couple.
Candlelit vigils were later held in the areas of the city they were from, one in Grangetown and one in Llandaff North.
Saunders pleaded guilty to murdering the couple when he appeared at court.
