Porthmadog,North Wales - Gwynedd beach left littered with rubbish and condoms after party

Residents in Borth-y-Gest near Porthmadog were left to clean up the mess

A beautiful beach was left covered in broken glass and used condoms after a party held by youngsters.
Locals in Borth-y-Gest, a picturesque village near Porthmadog, Gwynedd were left horrified after being called to the beach this morning and forced to clear up after the night-time visitors.
As well as hazardous broken glass left on nearby rocks, there were bottles, cans, a disposable barbecue, cardboard boxes and condoms strewn around.
One woman said: “There is quite a lot of broken glass on the rocks, which is likely to be swept around the beach by the tide.”
She added that residents want police to step in to stop parties taking place on the beach.
One man added: “This is the third incident in six weeks. Up to 70 people were counted walking to the beach last occasion. Locals are having to clear up.”
Gwynedd Cllr Selwyn Griffiths who lives in Borth-y-Gest said he is “disappointed” that the beauty spot was left in a state.

He said: “I am very disappointed that people use our local beauty spots to have parties and leave them in such a state. I would appeal to any member of the public who see party goers going towards the paths leading towards the beaches to contact the harbour master or the local police immediately.
“We had a similar problem a few years ago and, by working together with the local police officers, it was resolved. It is very unfair that a few people disrespect a beautiful area which we as a local community are very proud of. The beach is there for everyone to enjoy.”
Four years ago more than 100 schoolchildren were caught celebrating the end of their exams at a booze-fuelled party at the beach.
During the incident police officers filled two cars with alcohol confiscated from the teenagers, many aged just 14.
No arrests were made but Porthmadog police issued warnings and recorded the youngsters’ details.
