Children, dog walkers, and horses all use the route, which is also popular with 4x4 drivers
Users of a mountain path have reported someone leaving concealed spikes on footpaths.
On Sunday a 4x4 user got a flat tyre after driving over one of the deadly-looking spikes on Bwlch Mountain in the Rhondda .
When the driver looked to see what had caused the puncture, he found six 5cm spikes protruding from the snow.
The points had been buried in the ground seemingly deliberately.
The driver was a member of Bonkas 4x4 Wales, a club for people who use 4x4s.
He took a picture of the spikes and called club administrator Tony Vincent.
According to Mr Vincent these spikes have been seen in other places as well.
The 47-year-old said: “It is not just at that place, it is on Nelson Common as well.
“Someone I know with a 4x4 got a puncture after driving over it on Sunday.”
Mr Vincent said he believed there was a threat to life.
“It is not just 4x4 drivers who use those paths. Children, dog walkers and horses all use them.
“They have dug holes and they put them in and then cover them with the soil leaving the spikes pointing up. Somebody is going to end up killed.
“This has only been happening around here for the last two months. We have reported the incident to the police.”
The spikes were found on Bwlch Mountain on a footpath near the A4061 road.
In a statement South Wales Police said: “We have received a report of spikes on the Bwlch Mountain from a person who has seen something on Facebook . We are currently investigating this.”
