Swansea,South Wales - 'Masked men carrying knives' forced their way into a family home to try steal car keys

A witness heard screams as three masked men reportedly entered the property carrying blades

A group of masked men forced their way into a family home in a bid to steal their cars.
Police rushed to the house in Coedcae in Pontardawe at 6.30pm on Saturday evening after they received panicked calls from witnesses who had seen the men enter the property.
A South Wales Police spokesman said a number of men gained access to a house and demanded car keys.
Following a struggle, they left without the keys, but stole a mobile phone and cash.
It is believed at least one of the men involved in the incident had a knife.
He is described as a being a black man with a slight build who spoke with quite a soft English accent, possibly from Birmingham. He was wearing a dark, hooded top or jacket at the time of the incident with the hood up.
He was also wearing a ski mask and black latex gloves.
The victims managed to raise the alarm with their neighbours and the police were called. Nobody was seriously injured.

'They were going about family life'

Detective Inspector Phil Sparrow, said: “This is a concerning incident which has left the victims traumatised and shocked. They were going about family life when the men walked into their home and asked for their car keys. They put up an extremely brave resistance which I am in no doubt caused the men to make off without the car they were looking for. We would like to hear from anybody who may have information.”
Eyewitnesses also said that South Wales Police deployed a helicopter to the area.
She said: "I heard screams. I went outside and saw three masked men and they entered the house. I think they may have been trying to steal a car."
Pontardawe Councillor Linet Purcell, who lives nearby, confirmed a helicopter was flying over the area late last night and expressed her shock at the incident.
"I saw a police helicopter out last night with the lights on. It looked like they were looking for someone," she said.
"I am completely shocked that this has happened. This sort of crime is rare in the area."
