A 39-year-old has been arrested after Home Office officials swooped on Cinnamon Indian
A man has been arrested during an immigration raid at a Conwy takeaway.
Officers from the Home Office visited Cinnamon Indian takeaway on Station Road, Llanfairfechan, on Friday, February 3, and questioned staff to establish whether they had the right to live and work in the UK.
A 39-year-old Bangladeshi man who it is understood has overstayed his visitor’s visa was arrested and is currently in detention pending his removal from the UK.
Takeaway staff have been served a notice warning they could be given a fine of up to £20,000 unless they can show the appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out.
Richard Johnson, from Immigration Enforcement in Wales, said: “We are working hard to tackle illegal working and those who abuse the UK’s immigration system.
“Using illegal labour is not a victimless crime; it cheats the taxpayer, undercuts honest employers and means legitimate job seekers are denied employment opportunities. It also exploits some of society’s most vulnerable people.”
Anyone with information about suspected immigration abuse should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or report it online, here.
