Llandudno is becoming more like Rhyl by the day!
The Manor Hotel scored one by hygiene officials when it was inspected last month
A popular seaside hotel recently taken over by new owners has been told it needs to make major improvements by hygiene inspectors.
The Manor Hotel on Craig-y-Don Parade, Llandudno scored one out of a possible five when visited by hygiene officials on Wednesday, January 4.
It was previously rated as a five.
But as a result of ongoing building work, the hygiene report issued by Conwy Council states thick dust and dirt in and around in the kitchen area led officials to drop its hygiene rating to a one.
According to the Food Standard Agency (FSA), major improvements are needed regarding the management of food safety, which includes putting system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat and evidence that staff know about food safety.
There are also concerns over the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.
However, the hygienic handling of food at The Manor Hotel, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage, was rated generally satisfactory.
Owners of the promenade hotel, A2P Hospitality Limited - run by Pradeep Sobti, Abhishek Gupta and Akshay Sobti - now need to make a number of changes if they are to get a pass-rating of three or above.
Pitching itself as “one of the best hotels in Llandudno for Venue Cymru”, The Manor Hotel was bought in December last year.
And the hotel is rated four out of a possible five on travel website TripAdvisor after receiving 255 reviews.
The majority of reviews posted on the review site since it was taken over in December rated it Average to Very Good.
But the most recent review, posted last week, said despite the carpet needing a clean, staff were “very friendly and public areas were clean and tidy".
“Single room and bathroom clean and modern shower very good," it says.
“It did look like the carpet could do with a thorough clean or be changed.
“Towels were very good. On the first evening it was very hot in the room even though the radiator was supposedly turned right down. Breakfast was fine with good choice.
“It is well located and in January there was adequate street parking. I would use it again if required.”
But another reviewer, who rated it Excellent on January 1, said: “Amazing hotel. We stayed for three nights over Christmas.
“Lovely bar staff was disappointed in the bar being closed on Christmas but it’s understandable. Lovely breakfast staff/cleaners.
“All in all I had a good stay even though it was filled with people complaining about everything I can’t fault it. Would stay again.”
When approached by the Daily Post, Debbie James of the Manor Hotel, said: “Before the building work moved in to the premises, The Manor Hotel held a five star rating.
“It has now dropped to a 1 as a result of the ongoing building work which is due to be finished this weekend at the latest.
“We are hoping to get The Manor Hotel back up to a five as soon as possible.”
