Gwynant Jones, 25, fell victim to ex-soldier Geraint Jones, also 25, on Halloween in Aberystwyth in an unprovoked assault
A man has revealed of the moment his ear was “ripped off” in an unprovoked Halloween horror attack by an ex-solider dressed as Colonel Gaddafi.
Gwynant Jones, 25, an app designer, was in a bar in Aberystwyth when Geraint Jones, also 25, crept up behind him and sank his teeth into his ear.
The sickening attack happened at The Academy on October 31st last year.
Geraint Jones wore fancy dress when he bit the ear off and spat it on the floor.
At Swansea Crown Court this week the history student, of Queens Avenue, Aberystwyth, pleaded guilty to committing grievous bodily harm but denied GBH with intent.
Speaking after the court case Gwynant Jones of Penegoes, Machynlleth, said: “It was a completely unprovoked attack.
“All I can remember is being at the bar and then suddenly feeling a lot of pain.
“I leaned forward and I think that’s when my ear must have ripped off and I saw lots of blood.
“I don’t know why he did it and I don’t know why didn’t he let go.
“The CCTV pictures showed somebody had obviously intervened.
“The pictures show my ear in his mouth.
“He has a criminal record now.
“After he attacked me, he came out of the pub and started high-fiving two of his mates in the street.”
The court heard the severed earlobe was later found on the floor by a barman, but it was not possible to reattach it.
Mr Jones who has had reconstructive surgery on his ear and is still receiving treatment said: “It has been painful and it’s still an odd feeling.
“I’m glad that the case is over now.
“I had an operation last December but there were complications and I had to have another one at the beginning of January.
“It looks like it is getting better. I’ll be going back to see my consultant in three months.”
Mr Jones said he suffered flashbacks after the attack and his balance has been affected.
He said: “I don’t get as many flashbacks now. I am also more confident that after the attack.”
At the time of the brutal assault, Mr Jones worked in Manchester but he has now moved back and is now able to work from home.
He said: “I’m slowly getting better but the doctor has told me not to go running for the next six weeks.”
At the end of the court case Geraint Jones was released on bail and will be sentenced next month.
