Police are warning residents in the Penrhos area to be vigilante after the attempted raid on Valentines' night
A householder flicked on the lights in a room in his home to find a burglar climbing through the window.
The startled thief fled the scene after trying to break into the house in Bangor through a window on the ground floor.
There were a number of people in the house at the time.
Police have now issued a warning to other residents to be on their guard following the incident in the Penrhos area, which happened at around 7.50pm on Tuesday night.
Investigating Officer PC Ceri Wasiuk at Bangor Police Station said it was not clear if there had been two burglars trying to get into the property.
PC Wasiuk said: “The occupants, alerted to the noise, switched on interior lights which disturbed the intruder, or intruders, and it would appear they fled the scene.
“If anyone was in the area at the time and witnessed any suspicious person or behaviour, or indeed knows who is responsible then please contact police.
“It is worth reminding householders to be vigilant at all times. It is important to ensure property is adequately secured and windows and doors securely locked.
“If anyone sees any suspicious behaviour they should contact police immediately.”
To contact officers ring 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference RC17021443.
