A MAN slapped his mother after being sentenced at court earlier the same day for assaulting her.
Richard Evans, 20, from Gwenfro, Wrexham, pleaded guilty to assaulting his 64-year-old mother Irena Evans on Thursday, June 23 and on Friday, June 24 after she refused to give him money.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court Evans had appeared before Wrexham Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 23 after assaulting his mother on June 19 and on June 22 after “losing his temper and punching her arm causing bruising”.
Evans was given a 24-month community order on June 23 and was issued a victim surcharge fee but struck his mother again on the same day.
Ms Jackson told the court Evans, who is known to take cannabis and crack cocaine, had demanded money from his mother on Thursday, June 23, and said if she didn’t give him the money, he would assault her again.
Mrs Evans said she would not be able to pay off her debts if she gave him more money and refused to pay him.
Evans slapped her across the face when she refused, the court heard.
After Evans left her house, Mrs Evans did not report the crime to the police or seek medical advice following the assault.
Evans “punched and struck his mother a number of times to the arm” after she had tried to report the crime to the police, the court heard.
In a statement read by Ms Jackson, Mrs Evans said she “cannot cope with his behaviour” and “cannot take any more”.
“He has a brain injury but his drug use is deteriorating his behaviour,” his mother added. “The constant abuse is absolute hell.”
Ms Jackson told the court Ms Evans is “afraid” of her son’s behaviour and he needs help to help her lead a “normal life”.
On Thursday, July 1, Mrs Evans contacted the police to show an officer her left arm which had yellow bruises all down it.
She told the officer she was “too scared to make a complaint at the time of the incident”.
Euros Jones, defending, said Evans, who has schizophrenia, was “devastated to find himself back before the court” and “accepts the injuries he caused to his mother”.
Bench chairman Alan Moore said Evans “blatantly ignored the previous community order and attacked his mother again”.
He said Evans would not comply with the restraining order, leaving his mum vulnerable, and although he noted his mental health problems, he did not believe Evans takes his health seriously as a result of his drug use.
A two year restraining order was made, barring Evans from going near his mother and banning him from entering Gwenfro. He was also issued a surcharge of £150.
