A MORTGAGE broker from Chester has appeared before a court for assaulting a woman inside a city centre bar and being caught with cocaine.
Director Sharon Owens, who owns A Move Mortgage Services, based in Conwy, pushed a woman off a sofa causing her to hit her head on the floor leaving her unconscious, magistrates in Chester heard.
Moments earlier Owens, of Cherry Dale Road Broughton, had asked victim Emma Wilkinson to move after returning to find her seat taken at the Red Door Bar in St John Street, Chester.
Mrs Owens pushed Miss Wilkinson off the sofa, causing her to fall to the floor and hit her head resulting in her being unconscious for a minute and leaving her with a lump the size of a small golf ball”, said Alison Warbuton, prosecuting before West Cheshire Magistrates Court, sitting in Chester.
Following her arrest for assault, Owen was searched and found to have a wrap of cocaine on her possession.
Owens, 44, who does not ordinarily drink, was remorseful for the assault and said friends had pressured her in to buying the cocaine.
She pleaded guilty to assault and possession of cocaine.
Thomas Keaney, defending described the offence as an “isolated incident” and said Owens had worked hard to set up her business as a mortgage broker.
He said Owens had experienced difficulties.
He said: “It is a sad case that Mrs Owens is before the court today. She has no previous convictions.
“Mrs Owens has had a turbulent three years in that she has been subjected to a history of domestic violence and in 2013 her husband fled the country. He is on an international warrant”.
Mr Kearney added that after her difficulties, Owen had moved on and was enjoying the success of running her own business when friends came along and befriended her and took advantage and used her for her money.”
Magistrates imposed a six-month conditional discharge and ordered Owens to pay £100 compensation to her victim, along with £105 court costs
