Police have arrested two men following the death of a 27-year-old man following a "disturbance" in Barry in the early hours of Saturday.
South Wales Police would not specify the nature of their investigation into the man’s death following a reported incident in a lane off Broad Street in the town, close to the Sir Samuel Romilly pub.
But they confirmed two men, aged 42 and 29, had been arrested following a "disturbance".
"A 27 year-old man died following a disturbance which took place in a lane behind Broad Street, Barry, at approximately 4am," a force spokesman said.
"A police cordon has been set up at the scene and a police investigation is under way."
A member of staff at the Wetherspoons pub said they “were not too sure what’s going on to be honest”.
She added: “We’re not allowed to talk about anything to do with it.”
Twitter user Danny Mcphillips wrote that there were “loads of police” near the pub on Saturday morning and that the area was “all cordoned off”.
Mr Mcphillips, who works in a builders merchant in Barry, said: "There were about four or five vans there this morning, something like
that.
"They had cordoned off the road.
"It looked like a pretty serious situation."
Police appealed for any witnesses to the incident to contact them on 101 quoting reference *246455 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.
