WHEN a woman visited her “dream home" being renovated in the shadow of Snowdon, she was shocked to find a man inside, watching TV.
Colin Piper, age 42, of Cefn Cwellyn, Rhyd Ddu, was asked what he was doing there and he “shouted incoherently, walked towards the hall and left,” said Richard Edwards, prosecuting at Caernarfon crown court on Monday.
“She heard a reference to ‘my house’,” added the barrister.
Piper pleaded guilty to the burglary at Rhyd Ddu, which happened in October, and was jailed for a year.
The woman found that Piper had smashed a kitchen window to get in, alcohol had been taken and he had defecated in most of the rooms.
In an impact statement the owner said the episode had affected her health and worst of all was that Piper had defecated against walls, the stairs, bedding and carpets.
Mr Edwards stated: “She says this was a dream home for her and her husband in the country, somewhere where they were supposed to be safe, but the dream has now been shattered.”
Simon Rogers, defending, said misuse of alcohol was a problem that Piper would have to address.
“This is clearly a man who has real difficulties,” he remarked.
Recorder Robert Britton, passing sentence, said it was “a troubling case.”
He told Piper: “This was extremely upsetting for the victim. She is a lady who was there on her own, coming back to her home, and there you were watching TV.
“Not only that but the way you soiled the house was upsetting for her and an aggravating matter.”
Mr Edwards told the judge that next month a Criminal Behaviour Order will be sought against Piper.
