A TEENAGER who raped a nine-year-old boy after threatening to cut his throat has avoided custody.

Last month the 14-year-old from the Rhyl area pleaded guilty to the sex attack but denied making the threat. District Judge Gwyn Jones, however, found that threats had been made and also found the defendant guilty of inciting the victim to commit a sexual act.

The teenager was cleared of a similar incitement charge involving an 11-year-old boy.

At the two-day trial the victim, now aged 10, gave evidence by video-link about the incident, which occurred on the riverbank in St Asaph in September last year.

The nine-year-old claimed that the offences occurred after the teenager, who had been fishing in the River Elwy, invited them to play a game of “dirty dare”.

At Wrexham youth court, the District Judge, after considering pre-sentence reports on the 14-year-old, who was 13 at the time of the offences, made him subject of a youth rehabilitation order with intensive supervision for two years, with an activity requirement.

He must also observe an 8pm – 6am curfew for three months and will be on the sex offenders’ register for two-and-a-half years. His parents were ordered to pay costs of £600 and a surcharge of £15.
