A homeless man famous for sleeping in a cave will spend this Christmas in a prison cell after breaching a criminal anti-social behaviour order (Crasbo).
Raymond Burton, 53, who has more than 130 previous offences, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison at Llandudno Magistrates on December 10 after being found guilty of breaching an Asbo for the 30th time.
On December 3 he shouted and swore on Augusta Street, Llandudno, before being arrested for doing the same at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, in breach of his Crasbo.
Charges of being drunk and disorderly and of assaulting a constable were dismissed by magistrates.
Ray made the national news in December 2013 and again last year, after describing his life living in a tent in a cave on the Great Orme, Llandudno.
After he was featured last year and his story picked up by national newspapers, offers of help flooded in.
Brenda Fogg, who founded Llandudno homeless charity Hope Restored, said at the time: “It’s all gone crazy. We’ve even been contacted by someone in Australia who wanted to help him.
“A lady from Cardiff rang up asking if she could pay for a hotel for him so that he’d have somewhere warm to stay over Christmas.
“People have even been up to the cave to try and find him.
“It would be awful if it all goes wrong for him now, as he lost the last flat we got him because things got out of hand. I don’t want to see that happening again.”
Sadly, alcoholic Ray lost yet another flat after complaints about the behaviour of himself and visitors, before ending up back on the Great Orme living rough.
In January this year he was barred from every pub in Llandudno for six months for swearing and being offensive when asked to leave a local bar.
In March he was warned he faced jail after breaching his Asbo again, this time for having an open can of cider in the street.
Now he will spend at least 16 weeks of his 32 week sentence in jail after his latest breach
