RSPCA Cymru appeal for information after tabby cat Theo had to be put to sleep

Pet owners are living in fear after a cat was poisoned and shot with an air rifle inFlintshire .
Vets put the beloved family pet to sleep after the horrific attack – leaving its owners “devastated”.
The six-year-old tabby cat, called Theo, was discovered collapsed and “barely conscious” with a pellet embedded in its chest in Strand Crescent in Holywell on December 23.
RSPCA Cymru is investigating the sickening incident.
Theo’s owner, who does not want to be named due to fears that her other cat could be targeted, has told of her heartbreak.
The mother-of-two told the Daily Post: “We’ve had Theo since he was a tiny kitten – he was so small he could fit in the palm of my partner’s hand.
“I just don’t understand why someone would viciously attack a poor incident cat. We are just so devastated, he was such a gentle giant.
“For this to happen before Christmas was so cruel – my two boys are so upset.”

Rat Poison

Theo was discovered by a neighbour who rushed him to vets who found that he had ingested a “large quantity” of rat poison.
His owner said: “It is just beyond belief. It is not the time of year for rats apparently and there are no farms or fields nearby where he could have eaten so much rat poison.
“When I found out I just screamed and I couldn’t even move. To find out he had been shot too was just awful.
“The neighbours are worried – there are a lot of cat owners around here and they are now very wary."
However, RSPCA Cymru say it is not clear if Theo was deliberately poisoned.
RSPCA inspector Jenny Anderton said: “He must have been in so pain due to his horrific injury and it is heartbreaking to think what he went through along with his owners, just days before Christmas.
“It has been confirmed that the pellet removed from the cat was from an air rifle – a 22 pellet.
“It is unclear if he had been deliberately poisoned or if he had ingested it accidentally.”
