A Rhyl man has admitted stealing from the same store in the town on three occasions.
But defendant John Stuart Ball was cleared of breaching a restraining order not to approach his ex partner in Holywell.

Flintshire magistrates’ court at Mold was told that Ball, aged 42, had left Holywell and lived in a flat in Princess Street, Rhyl.

On November 13, 14 and 16 he went to the local Aldi store and stole items – mainly coffee.

Huw Roberts, defending, said that his client had been initially living rough in Rhyl and was then living with a friend.

The offences were typically of those who stole to sell on to raise money.

Ball had been in custody for between four and five weeks on remand, which he said was equivalent to a nine week sentence.

Magistrates jailed him for six weeks and said that it would mean his release.
He was ordered to pay £183 compensation to Aldi, together with a £150 criminal court charge and a £85 surcharge.

The court earlier heard how Ball was subject of a restraining order not to approach former partner and he was banned from entering The Strand in Holywell.

It was alleged that on November 5 he entered Strand Walk and spoke to her, telling her not to call the police.

But Ball said that he had been helping a friend prepare a bonfire night barbecue in a nearby street and denied that he had entered Strand Walk or had spoken to her.

He was cleared of that charge.
