Conwy,Cerrigydrudion,North Wales - Murder probe after Cerrigydrudion human remains find

23 DEC 2015

After discovery of skeletal remains at woodland site, North Wales Police say they are treating the death as suspicious

Detectives say the discovery of a body in woodland in North Wales is being treated as murder.
A forensic examination of an area in Cerrigydrudion has been ongoing for several weeks following the unearthing of skeletal remains.
A post mortem has been carried out and it has been discovered that the male victim suffered serious head injuries.
Detective Superintendent John Hanson, who is leading the probe, said: "The meticulous examination and recovery phase of this operation at the scene at Pentrellyncymer is now complete and the forensic anthropologist continues to examine all the remains.
"The post mortem examination and the initial forensic anthropology has provided further information I can share as I appeal for the public’s help.
"We can now say the remains are those of one person, and that is of a male aged over 54 and between 5’ 8 and 5’10 ½ tall.

"The, as yet unidentified, man sustained serious head trauma and whilst the circumstances of his death are unknown at this time the injuries indicate the death is suspicious so detectives will continue to work alongside forensic experts to establish the man’s identity and circumstances and cause of his death.

"I am conscious at this stage the description of the man is very limited, and initial indications suggest his remains have been in the forest at Pentrellyncymer for several years.
"However I would still ask if anyone in the community can help me identify this man and offer any information which would progress this investigation to please contact North Wales Police."

Anyone with any information can contact North Wales Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and quote Operation Tractile – S175107.
