A campaign was started to raise money for May Owen after she was mugged on December 10
A man accused of mugging a 72-year-old woman who then became the subject of a successful fundraising campaign has been named.
Paul James Childs, 29, will appear at Caernarfon Crown Court on January 4 charged with robbery.
He is accused of mugging May Owen in broad daylight on Kingsland Road in Holyhead on December 10.
In the attack, Ms Owen was pushed to the ground, suffering cuts and bruises, and had her purse stolen.
Childs, of Harcourt Road, Llandudno, appeared before Caernarfon magistrates on Saturday and his case was transferred to crown court.
The Daily Post understands the 29-year-old has connections to the Holyhead area.
Detective Chief Inspector Iestyn Davies said: “I am grateful to the assistance provided by the community of Holyhead during the last week, which helped us in making significant progress resulting in this charge.
“Despite a man having been charged in connection with this robbery, I would still like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to contact police on 101.”
It is understood that, after the incident, the mugger ran into Arthur Street East and up a lane which leads to Clifton Terrace.
He then ran across Kingsland Road into an alleyway that leads in the general direction of Porthdafarch Road and the Tan yr Efail and Treseifion estates.
Touched by Ms Owen’s ordeal, Denise Owen , who is no relation, set up a crowd-funding page to help reimburse the 72-year-old.
The campaign had an initial target of £250, but the total is now £1,165 after a week of fundraising.
Denise hopes to present Ms Owen with the money next week.
Anyone with information is asked to call North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number RC15163495.
