TWO cats have been poisoned at separate addresses in Rhyl.
RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after two male cats were believed to be poisoned in the Larkmount Road area.
Inspector Rachael Davies said: “Two male cats - one black and one tabby were taken to the vets when they became unwell.
“Sadly on veterinary advice, they were put to sleep to prevent further suffering. Both of the cats have had bloods taken and a vet has confirmed a high phosphate level.
“Both cats lived about 50 yards away from each other, so we are urging other pet owners in the area to be vigilant and also to remind residents to make sure any potential poisonous substances are safely stowed away, as we don’t know if this was an accident or a deliberate act.”
If anyone has any information about these incident or similar incidents in the area, they are urged to contact the RSPCA inspector information line on 0300 123 8018. Calls will be treated in confidence.
Poisoning a cat deliberately is a criminal offence. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, the maximum penalty for those found guilty of this offence is up to six months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £20,000.
