An investigation is continuing after a post-mortem examination on human remains found in Conwy indicated the person died in suspicious circumstances after sustaining “serious head trauma”.
The remains were found by a member of the public on November 14, when North Wales Police were called to a forestry at Pentrellyncymer, near Cerrigydrudion in Conwy county. A forensic anthropologist and a Home Office pathologist have been assisting police since.
While the investigation is continuing, the search in the forestry has now been concluded. All human remains have been recovered, with the body believed to have been there for several years.
The person is thought to be male, aged over 54 and between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10.5in.
Detective Superintendent John Hanson said: “The as yet unidentified man sustained serious head trauma and whilst the circumstances of his death are unknown at this time the injuries indicate the death is suspicious, so detectives will continue to work alongside forensic experts to establish the man’s identity and circumstances and cause of his death.
“The meticulous examination and recovery phase of this operation at the scene at Pentrellyncymer is now complete and the forensic anthropologist continues to examine all the remains.”
