A 54-year-old woman was blinded in one eye after being hit by an unknown object outside a Torfaen pub.
She was stood outside the White Hart on George Street, Pontypool, at about 20:35 GMT on Black Friday.
She was hit by the object and has since lost her sight in her left eye. She is recovering at home.
Det Con Karl Smith of Gwent Police said: "This is seemingly a motiveless attack. At this stage we cannot confirm what has caused this sort of injury."
