Seven newborn puppies were discovered dumped in a crate days before Christmas.
The dogs, thought to be Rottweiler crosses, were found by a walker on land known as “the racecourse” in Penlan, Swansea .
Now RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information about the animals.
Three girls and four boys, they were found December 22, at 8.30am.
“These poor puppies could have died if they had not been found,” Inspector Gemma Cooper said.
“They were found in a black training crate and were soaking wet and hungry.
“They are so young – only a couple of days old – their eyes are not even open yet. They are three girls and four boys.
“These poor pups are too young to be without mum and demand around the clock care,” said Inspector Cooper.
The RSPCA are planning giving the animals festive names.
“We are thinking about naming them Holly, Ivy and Angel for the girls and then Noel, Sprout, Pudding and Blitzen for the boys,” Inspector Cooper said.
They have been taken to a registered foster carer to be looked after.
An RSPCA spokesman said: “Sadly holidays like Christmas can lead to an increase in abandonments as some people chose to get rid of their pets rather than pay for them to be looked after while they are on holiday.
“In other cases, money may be spent on holidays and Christmas presents rather than seeking vet attention for ill or newborn animals, so they are dumped.”
Anyone with information about the dogs should contact the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
