Pensioner's German Pointer bit nine-year-old as it wandered around freely in the Cuckoo Club

A pensioner whose dog bit the nose of a girl of nine in an Old Colwyn bar was ordered to pay her £1,000 compensation.
Magistrates at Llandudno also ordered 65-year-old David Chapman, of Kensington Avenue, Old Colwyn, to keep the German Pointer bitch called Katie on a lead and in control in any public place.
He must pay a further £366 compensation for the expenses incurred by the girl’s mother since the attack at The Cuckoo Club last August.
Chapman pleaded guilty to having a dangerously out of control dog which caused injury.
Prosecutor Nia Lloyd said the child was stroking the pet when she was bitten. CCTV footage showed the customer’s dog wandering around the bar.
Mrs Lloyd said the youngster went to hospital but was scarred and now terrified of animals.
Sarah Yates, defending, said Chapman was of good character and “extremely sorry and regretful.” He had the twelve-year-old dog since the summer of 2013.
Awarding compensation, court chairwoman Celia Lewis told Chapman: ”This doesn’t reflect the serious nature of the injury. But we have taken into consideration your limited means and ability to pay.”
