EXTRA police patrols will be deployed in retail areas across Gwynedd and Anglesey over Christmas.
North Wales Police said they will combat the increase in shoplifting and theft by opportunistic criminals taking advantage of large crowds and hastily-parked cars.
Chief inspector Mark Armstrong, at Caernarfon Police Station, said: “Prevention, awareness and deterrents like improved security and CCTV are important as well as sharing Intelligence and trends so Police can target the most prolific offenders.
“Therefore we are asking stores and the public to remain vigilant and inform us immediately if any suspicious behaviour or activity is suspected.
“During the last 12 months we have seen a reduction of shoplifting offences and we are determined to provide a safe environment for our communities to live, work and shop in.
“A number of operations are in place across Gwynedd and Mon to provide reassurance to stores and their customers and prevent crime.
“Police Officers and PCSOs will undertake increased patrols in retail areas to ensure any offenders are swiftly brought to justice.”
Police Officers, PCSOs and Special Constables in uniform and plain clothes will be working with local retailers and the numerous Shopwatch groups across the region to prevent crime and provide reassurance and prevention advice to the public.
Officers will visit retail shops and stores as well as surrounding car parks in a bid to deter crime or take “robust action” where necessary.
