A man stole Champagne for his daughter’s 18th birthday.
Russell Craig Dingle, 41, was told by District Judge Gwyn Jones that he clearly had a taste for the finer things in life.
On a previous occasion he had stolen some Hugo Boss aftershave.
Dingle, of Mountain Close in Hope, admitted stealing the champagne valued at £51 from the Co-operative store in Broughton on December 12.
A 30 day prison sentence was suspended for a year and he was ordered to pay the compensation in full, with £85 costs and a £115 surcharge.
Dingle, who had previous convictions for 70 offences, told the judge at Flintshire Magistrates Court yesterday: “I am sorry to bother you again.”
Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said in interview Dingle said he went to the store to get food but then saw the Champagne and decided to take it to give it to his daughter on her 18th birthday party.
She was not aware it was stolen when she received it.
Huw Roberts, defending, said the judge would have dealt with his client before.
He had a large number of previous convictions and was no stranger to the courts.
A gap in his offending coincided with him stopping using drugs.
The present offence was  different in that it was not because of an addiction but to have Champagne for his daughter’s birthday.
Mr Roberts said Dingle was very much involved in his daughter’s life and took a younger child to school every day.
