Bangor,North Wales - Drunk stabbed homeless man ... then tried to blame it on his dog

Matthew Roberts had been drinking all day with Dyfrig Hughes before he stabbed him repeatedly with a lock knife

A drunk stabbed his homeless drinking buddy four times as he slept - then tried to blame his dog for the wounds.
Matthew Roberts, 26, had been on an all day session with rough sleeper Dyfrig James Hughes before the attack.
Mr Hughes, 53, had been staying in a makeshift shelter near to the Castle pub in Bangor , and once he went to sleep, Roberts attacked him.
When the homelesss man woke up after feeling something touch him and felt blood on his body.
But Roberts - who had known Mr Hughes for many years - said that his dog had attacked him.
When paramedics arrived, they found he’d suffered four stab wounds, including one to the buttocks and one to his ankle.
Former stablehand Roberts was tracked down and arrested and was seen by the officers who detained him throwing away a lock knife.
Simon Rogers, defending Roberts at Caernarfon crown court today, insisted his was not a case of “picking on a homeless man”.
He accepted the injuries were “unpleasant”, and said Roberts, of Fford Caernarfon, Bangor, wanted to apologise for his actions.

But he couldn’t explain why he’d done what he did late at night on January 4.
Judge David Hale told him: “There are four stab wounds. The victim is vulnerable because he is affected by drink; it’s deliberate and sustained.
“You are wasting your life drinking away and in the course of some excessive drinking you have a lock-knife on you and have without reason stabbed your alcoholic homeless friend four times. It was a deliberate act on your part. It was repeated. It is therefore in my judgement a serious offence.”
Roberts - who had 21 previous convictions including for theft, assault and burglary - was jailed for two years.
