Sheldon Edwards pleaded guilty to stealing cigarettes while working at Country Stores in Three Crosses
A GOWERTON man has pleaded guilty to stealing cigarettes from the shop he was working in — though there is some confusion as to how much he actually took.
Sheldon Edwards pleaded guilty to two counts of theft by an employee from the Country Stores in Three Crosses between September and November last year — saying took between £50 and £60-worth on each occasion — when he appeared at Swansea Magistrates' Court.
However the court heard there was a piece of paper signed by the defendant which said he stole £500-worth — a letter which 28-year-old Edwards now says he was forced to sign by the shop owner.
The court was told that the owner has put in a request for compensation for some £1,900.
Solicitor Grayson Tanner, for Edwards, said the police "may take a view of the compensation claim".
Edwards, of Clos Marina, was fined £160 for each of the two thefts and ordered to pay a total of £100 compensation.
