Merthyr and Rhondda,South Wales - Police arrest 29 in crack-down on valleys drug dealers

Police have arrested 29 people in a series of raids across Merthyr and Rhondda
POLICE have arrested 29 people and executed 14 search warrants as part of a day-long operation targeting drugs dealers and criminal gangs in the south Wales valleys
Thursday's raids - at addresses across Rhondda and Merthyr - included local officers, armed response units, and the dog section along with council trading standards staff and the Welsh Ambulance Service's hazardous area response team.
South Wales Police chief inspector Mike Mantripp, who ran the operation, said the day was designed to disrupt criminal activity in the area.
And he thanked members of the public who had come forward with information to help his officers.
He said: "We recognise that drug dealing and drug use in our community can have a massive effect on residents and the action today confirms our commitment to tackling the supply of drugs on our streets and making them safer.
"Organised crime groups, who deal in the supply and distribution of drugs, don't care about the impact that the sale of drugs has on our streets and our communities. But we would like to reassure members of our communities that South Wales Police will do everything in our power to tackle drug supply on our streets.
"We will continue to proactively tackle criminal gangs who think nothing of putting dangerous drugs into our communities in order to profit from other people's misery.
"The execution of 14 warrants highlights the importance of community-based intelligence. We hope these warrants and subsequent arrests act as a stark warning to those in our communities who break the law by supplying or possessing drugs."
He added: "We would like to thank members of the community for their support and we would urge anyone who thinks they have information of value to the police to contact us immediately. As these warrants have shown we will act on the information you provide and all information provided to us will be treated in the strictest confidence."
