Leonard Evans attacked Carol Evans, stabbing her four times, at their flat in St Asaph Street

A lung cancer victim has been jailed for six years for stabbing his partner after a flying into a drunken jealous rage.
Leonard Evans, 53, attacked Carol Evans with a knife, stabbing her in the neck and chest, leaving her bleeding heavily.
She managed to stagger from the flat they shared in Rhyl and raise the alarm with neighbours.
Evans, of St Asaph Street, had a history of violence against Ms Evans, 51, and he had been drinking throughout the day before stabbing her because he suspected she was seeing someone else.
Mold Crown Court heard prosecuting barrister Jonathan Austin say the couple had been in an eight year relationship, she was his registered carer and it appeared he suffered from depression but refused to see his GP.
They had been in the flat together all day, that evening they had been sitting side by side on the sofa watching television on November 9 last year. She described herself as tipsy and Evans as being drunk.
He started questioning her about a male friend, but she re-assured him that the man was simply an old friend and that Evans was the only man for her.
He got up and she thought that was the end of it. But he returned and stood in front of her holding an open lock knife, and then stabbed her in the face, neck and chest up to four times.
Ms Evans was able to kick him and escape, wearing only her underwear, shouting to her neighbours that “he’s stabbed me” and holding a cushion to try to staunch her bleeding.
Evans was arrested on Rhyl promenade, and claimed she had pushed him too far, picking up a wooden stool and striking him with it.
The judge, Mr Recorder Timothy Petts, jailing Evans for six years, said that he would have received a nine year sentence but for his guilty plea to grievous bodily harm.
Simon Kille, defending Evans - who also suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - said he is due to have an operation for his medical problems and asked that he be transferred to a prison down south where his sister lives, otherwise he would be facing his health problems and the prospect of surgery alone.
Investigating Officer DC Mark Doyle, of St Asaph CID, said: "This sentence reflects that domestic violence will not be tolerated in our society and I would urge victims of any level of domestic violence to come forward and report it to the police or contact the Live Fear Free helpline on 0808 80 10 800.
"Evans attacked his victim with a knife and the injuries, although serious, could have been worse and he may have been facing a lot longer behind bars.
"Weapons used as part of an assault can inflict terrible injuries and it is reassuring to see the courts acknowledging such in the sentence handed out."
